A few posts back I reviewed the Golden Globe Dresses. That post was a success (thanks guys) so I thought I'd go ahead and review the SAG Awards. Fingers crossed you like this one too!
I have chosen 9 Dresses to be opinionated about and I will put them into 4 categories :
1. Well Done!
2.Confusing...
3.Fail
4.My number 1 Red Carpet Look
Let's do this!
1. Well Done
Nina Dobrev
Dress by Elie Saab.
This dress is perfect for her body type. She looks gorgeous but not too skinny - in some dresses she may have looked a little thin I think.
The top of the dress is "t-shirt" like but it works because the dress is full length so it doesn't make it too casual.
The little slit is great and I adore the belt; It gives her a waist line and cuts the dress in the perfect place to give her body some shape.
Love the colour: fresh and young! Like the hair, earrings and purse.
Well done!
Kerry Washington
Dress by Rodarte
I love the bustier on the skirt. It does remind me of the Chanel number Anne Hathaway had at the Globes but it's different enough to work for her. It's very glamourous even though it's a two piece.
The detail around the edges adds a little extra spice to the outfit and the slit at the top of the bustier relaxes the square cut.
The white on her skin looks gorgeous.
Well Done!
Amanda Seyfried
Dress by Zac Posen
Navy Blue : YES ! This is the way forward ... forget black !! So sophisticated I can't take it!
The bottom of the dress is gorgeous, definitely gives her floor ownership of the red carpet. The top of the dress in that heart shape reminds of the waves of the bottom and makes the dress "cute" ...and she's young so that's good!
The necklace and hair keep the overall look relaxed.
Well Done !
Tina Fey
Dress by Oscar De La Renta
Oscar Oscar Oscar this dress is fabulous ! In my Golden Globes review I had a soft spot for the Zac Posen number Glenn Close was wearing ... in this review it's the De La Renta I have a crush on.
The top of the dress is perfect, the length is perfect, the frill detail gives the dress some weight and the BELT ?? That is the genius behind this look !!!
I can't really even explain why I love this but I do.
I want to wear a gown with a belt now ....
Well Done!
2. Confusing...
Sofia Vergara
Dress by Donna Karan
Is it a fancy night gown? is it a wedding dress? was the second sleeve too long so she put it by her neck instead?
What is happening with the bottom? Is one side longer? where is the slit?
The shoes look cheap. Sorry. What's with the platform and the 1 red toe nail I can see ??
Confusing ....
Nicole Kidman
Dress by Vivienne Westwood
Why can I see her big pants??
The "stuff" coming off of the dress looks like see weed ... maybe she is suppose to look like a high fashion queen of the sea ?
I like the length and shape but that's it.
Nicole Kidman can look great in so many things, why did she pick this???
Confusing ....
3. Fail
Rose Byrne
Dress by Valentino
You know in the 70's they had bad pastel flower print wall paper? Here it is, straight from her mothers old living room transformed into a dress. There was some spare paper left over from the basic dress so she created a floaty sleeve for broader shoulders (not hot) and then added some wings down the side of the dress to widen everything : NOT WORKING.
Once all the wall paper was stuck together she ran to a shop to get a plastic white belt to make sure the paper didn't fall apart.
FAIL
Julianna Moore
Dress by Chanel
The neckline makes everything look like its falling down ...
The top of the dress is baggy and looks like an old pyjama vest when the bottom looks like a piece of material for a cushion.
The top does not work with the bottom! This needed a different top half if nothing else !!
It's not working for me. It's not working for her. It's not working for Chanel !!!
Oh and btw, with a neckline like that , tie your hair up! Don't let it hang with the other hanging things !
Fail
4. My number 1 Red Carpet Look
Marion Cotillard
Dress by Christian Dior
OUI ! OUI! OUI!
LOVE this dress.
LOVE the white top to contrast with the deep blue "poof" part of the dress.
LOVE the bow belt: original to have a bow at the front.
LOVE the pockets for a bit of "edge" .
LOVE the folded material at the front and
LOVE the length difference around the bottom.
LOVE the reveal of the great shoes.
LOVE the necklace.
LOVE the hair.
LOVE the french actress wearing a french designer.
This is my number 1 Red Carpet Look FOR SURE !!!
And so this review comes to an end with DIOR winning me over again !! A real coincidence but so far 2 really gorgeous gowns worn very well .
Looking forward to the next Red Carpet event I can critique !
Much love and shoes,
à bientôt,
Mlle Ginger
