The Oscars : The Ginger Review

Ah yes the Oscars ! Well let's not waste anytime ... 10 dresses, 4 categories :

1. Well Done!
2. Confusing...
3. Fail.
4. My number 1 Red Carpet Look

This was a hard one because I couldn't choose my favourite straight away so I had to really think about it... but here we go !

1. Well Done !

Amanda Seyfried

Dress by Alexander McQueen

This look is flawless.

The dress looks stunning and I bet it was even more stunning in real life ! Light lilac base with gorgeous gold details: so pretty and floaty !

Love the length and neckline.

Love the hair and make-up. Hair up was a must with the halter neck so i'm relieved it wasn't just left hanging ...

She looks gorgeous.

Well Done !

Amy Addams

Dress by Oscar De La Renta

That's a ball gown ! As usual Oscar is over the top but it's the Oscars so no problem there.

Love the simple bustier + fluffy bottom combo. It's a great statement. I like the colour. The dress would have been awful had it been too bright!

I think she looks amazing even though I would never wear it myself and that's definitely a testament to how good the dress is .

Great hair, very Hollywood glam. Also love the earrings.

Well Done !

Kelly Rowland

Dress by Versace (?)

I really like this dress. I love the shape with the geometry going on around the waist and at the top of the bustier.
I love the Black and White colour split. So elegant but with an edge thanks to the geometry !

I like the length and the slit. Most of the time I think slits like that are too much but here I like it and I think that's thanks to the length of the dress. Had it been ankle length it would not have been appropriate for the Oscars at all.

Don't like the shoe though... simple black would have been better .Don't like the nails either !

Love the hair and dress enough to say ....
Well Done !

Charlize Theron

Dress by Dior

We have seen quite a few of these white bustier + skirt numbers this season (Rodarte on Kerry Washington/ Chanel on Anne Hathaway) but THIS is my fav of those !

She looks amazing. The bustier is perfect. The length is also perfect and that's why it's my favourite of these "white perfume bottle" dresses. It's simple but it's still a gown ! Red Carpet worthy !

The short hair is fabulous .

Well Done !

Fan Bingbing

Dress by Marchesa

LOVE THIS ! This was almost my number 1.

Look at that vibrant colour and gorgeous bustier top with the detail under and the folding and the "around the waist" area .... I don't know the technical terms for any of the above but this dress is art.

The bottom is like a princess gown and I would assume she looked like she was floating along that carpet.

I just think this is a little girls dream dress and she just went there and wore it and was like "Kablam, I'm famous and I can wear this now" . WERK !

Love the hair and earrings. Well Done !

2.Confusing ...

Zoe Saldana

Dress by Alexis Mabille

What happened? Belt and above looks amazing. Bottom grey/ black detail looks... like a different dress??

I feel like this was a project. Someone designed the top,  someone designed the bottom and then they stuck it together .... why ? Separate them and design the rest of your own dress ... there is potential !

ALSO, shoes. Why can I see some toes just sticking out of a straight across black thick 90's strap ??? NO .

This dress is :
Confusing ...

Halle Berry

Dress by Versace

Ermmmm .... hmmmm... welllllll... I ....... ?!

This is not pretty. This is not original. This is not Oscars worthy. This is not a fashion statement. I don't know what this is.

I think the top half of the dress should be a top that you wear with high waisted black trousers or skirt to a Waacking event !!!!

That's it. That's what I think. I just don't understand how you can be Halle Berry and have so many designers throwing stuff at you and you choose this ... for the OSCARS.

Never mind.
Confusing .....

3.Fail.

Jennifer Garner

Dress by Gucci

I would love to see what this dress would look like without the "frouf" sticking out the back . It probably would have been very simple but I would have liked it more.

The stuff sticking out the back is just too weird and definitely does not look good on pictures.

I also think that necklace is too big for her.

Basically ... Fail.

Giuliana Rancic

Dress by ?

This annoys me because she is a Fashion Police reporter and she is wearing this ???? With her hair like that ??

It's so ugly! Folds everywhere across random places. Not flattering and not pretty.

I just don't like it. I don't think she looks good in it. I think it looks like a last minute choice.

Fail.

4. My number 1 Red Carpet Look

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

This girl and DIOR have nailed it this season !!
This dress is a-ma-zing .
Full on Ball Gown for the Oscars and she Wins! WERK !

I love the shape. She does floor ownership sooooo well. The "fish tail" type back is so wonderful. The bustier really suits her body type and she knows it. I love that it goes out at the hip rather than waist... this is the new ball gown !

Her hair is also spot on. Very glamourous. Make-up is great.

I LOVE IT . My Number 1 Red Carpet Look !

Thanks for reading ..... next up : My Number 1 Red Carpet Look of the SEASON !!!

Much love and shoes,

à bientôt,

BAFTA : The Ginger Review

After reviewing the Globes, the SAG Awards and the Grammys, it's time for The BAFTAs.

10 Dresses, 4 Categories :

1.Well Done !
2.Confusing ...
3.Fail
4.My Number 1 Red Carpet Look

Here we go !

1.Well Done!

Helen Mirren

Dress by Nicholas Oakwell Couture

I LOVE this ! She looks amazing.

I absolutely Love that she is wearing a winter evening gown. It was snowing so that was smart! She has a silver "warmer" on top that also looks fabulous.

The dress itself is very pretty and it's the perfect length. It looks like a Disney Princess gown. Love the detail and the shape. .

The pink hair and pink lip? Fab! Can't believe how well she is pulling this off !

I want to look like that when i'm her age !

Well Done!

Jennifer Lawrence

Dress by Dior

I'm calling this look the Mermaid look.

The dress is very delicate and I love that on her because she is quite small.

I love the detail- the top is full and then it spreads out as we get lower on the dress and I think that makes it look glamourous but not crazy over the top bling bling!

I don't usually like hair back like that in the "wet" look but it works with the dress and makes her look like a Mermaid !

Making me like a look that I wouldn't usually like means someone with skill is behind the styling so ...

Well Done !

Paloma Faith

Dress by Nicholas Oakwell

I adore this dress. Once again I admire the winter evening gown choice.

I love the shape and the neckline+ slit: the "sexiness" is mysterious and that is my favourite kind.

It looks like the detail is all beads - love that.

The dress needed an up-do or it would have looked to heavy and the red lip adds a touch of colour: perfect styling.

This is the right kind of "Fashion Statement". I don't think everyone could have pulled this off. I think you need  a strong personality to wear this or it will wear you ! WERK PALOMA!

Well Done !

Gemma Chan

Dress by ???

Love this. A black sparkly dress with hints of gold melted into the dress. This is the right kind of "shiny" . Subtle but definitely there.

The neckline is very flattering. I love that the sleeves start on the edge of the shoulders ...
Good shout with the hair down- hair up would have revealed too much shoulder!

I love the drape around the waist. It gives her a little more curve.

Love the length and the way it just falls straight down like a shiny waterfall ! It's obvious this material is perfect... who made this??

Well Done!

2.Confusing...

Marion Cotilldard

Dress by Dior

Ok, this confuses me because it's weird but she looks good in it? Are you with me ?

The poof with the straight underneath with a transparent vale link ?!
I don't understand. It kind of looks like it's a mini dress that comes with an extra bit you can zip on in case it's cold !

I do think the colour suits her. I love the pocket. Great hair, make up and jewellery .

Overall this dress does seriously confuse me but I like that she sort of pulls it off ... maybe it's because it's Dior?!

Confusing ...

Anne Hathaway

Dress by Burberry

Anne ... this is your big year and you are wearing this?

I'm confused because this looks like it came from Zara. It Looks like a t-shirt tucked into a long black skirt.

I don't think she looks bad in it and I don't think the dress is actually ugly I just think she's totally under dressed and boring ...

I also think it's too long... or not long enough ! Basically it's a confusing length .

Confusing ...

3.Fail

Alice Eve

Dress by Alessandra Rich

I have to start with the shoes: clogs? clogs? CLOGS?

On to the Flame dress from the 90s .... this dress is actually perfect for Halloween. It should be worn with red shoes and red devil horns with red lips and big black eyes.

It drives me insane when I see this because I think to myself : "don't you have a friend to tell you the truth about your outfit? "

Anyway, I have nothing more to say.

FAIL

Elizabeth Olsen

Dress by Chanel Couture

This is another awful Chanel number :(

I hate the frills coming out of the halter neck.
I hate the frills around the hips- not flattering
I hate that it looks like a 2 piece... is it?
I hate the pattern.

I hate the colour. It's not Black and White, it's Black and Dirty White/Grey.

She is a young actress wearing an old frumpy gloomy dress to an Award show. It makes no sense.

Also, i've said it before and i'll say it again, do your HAIR !
This look is not ok.

FAIL

Zawe Ashton

Dress by Julian Mcdonald

Ok. This 1 hot mess.

The little black collar at the top is totally unnecessary.
The squiggly flowery bits are ugly and weirdly placed over a black boob tube... in fact I think the black boob tube is actually a "little black dress" that she has underneath this big transparent dress...

The bottom detail hides the shoes. I don't understand what the detail is....

... I've cracked it : her 3 Kids made 3 ugly dresses and she put them all on at the same time.

FAIL

4. My Number 1 Red Carpet Look

Amy Adams

Dress by Ellie Saab

This is how you do "transparent +black" on the Red Carpet. Finally!

I love the top. Nothing is exposed but the skin can be seen through the gorgeous detailed veil.
Love the long sleeves.
Love that it comes in at the waist before you get to the detail on the hip .

Love the slit.
Love the length .
Love what I can see of the shoes.
LOVE the hair (thank you for doing it!)
Great earrings.

She looks super classy with a touch of sexy. The long sleeve is great because it was snowing so the dress was appropriate.

Well done Amy, you are my number 1 Red Carpet Look of the BAFTAs !

Much love and shoes,

à bientôt,

Mlle Ginger

The Grammy Chart

It seems to me that, when it comes to the Red Carpet, actresses do it better. The singers, in my opinion, take too many risks and a lot of the time get it SO wrong! It seems it's all about standing out and making a "Fashion Statement"; I get that.... but wearing meat (just an example) is not a "Fashion Statement" it's a MISTAKE OF LIFE - NEVER TO BE REPRODUCED.

Bearing that in mind, I won't be doing my usual categories. I will save those for the Red Carpets of Acting Award Shows. This review will be in the "Chart" format instead.

The Chart will go from Best to Worst. Here is the thing though... I don't actually LOVE any of them but I have to work with what I am given ... so here I go. I will try to be nice ... unless it's too difficult to hold back !!

Alicia Keys in Alaïa

She looks hot.

Not really a big fan of snake print and of the "cut out"  dresses but she can definitely pull it off.

It's a risk but it's not risky enough to be a Mistake .

The hair and jewellery works with the dress so I can't fault her on her overall look.

Top of the Chart.

Rihanna in Alaïa

The dress is nice. Really like the colour but I don't like the "décolleté". I think it's too low and therefore not very flattering.

She forgot to do her hair. Ruins it.

The overall look is missing something because she needed an up -do or a pony tail to "funk" it up a little.

I also kind of think the trail at the back is too long for the Grammys ...

2nd in the Chart.

Taylor Swift in J Mendel

I think the colour and shape of the dress suit her.

I'm not really understanding the silver line down the middle of the top of the dress but I like the horizontal bit right at the top.

I love her hair. It really works with the "Greek Goddess" look.

I like that she looks young and fresh and does not try to go over the top to make all the headlines !

3rd in the chart.

Ashanti in Tony Ward Couture

I actually would love this dress if it was NOT transparent ?!? What is going on ??

It has a nice shape to it at the top with some originality . It goes in at the waist before the drop. I like that because it shows off some nice curves.

I like the little coloured flowers. .... why is it see through ?? I'm actuality asking ? Totes confused!

Love the hair and earrings. Can't really see the shoes.

It's a shame ... I liked it but then I didn't !

Now it goes downhill .... Fast !

Kelly Rowland in George Chakra

Hmmmmmm ... it was a good idea and then someone took it too far when the scissors got handed over to the wrong person....

Love the shape and the neckline . Very flattering. However, it's too much reveal.

don't really know what else to say .... maybe the bottom cut outs should have been lower?

Or maybe all the cut outs should have been thiner?

Katy Perry in Gucci

Oh my !

1. Who chose this colour? Mint?!

2. Hair ! Do it !

3. Hello Boobs! Had to say it ....

The same dress in black (with the coloured detail at the top) with smaller boobs and an up-do would have been great (in my opinion) however I have seen her wear some really weird outfits before so I guess this is not so bad !

Kimbra Lee Johnson in Lee Major

Tinker Bell gone Red Carpet.

If it wasn't for the "poof" bit sticking out the side this probably would have been higher up in the chart.

It's definitely cute and works with her fun hair cut and make -up.

I actually really like it without the poof ! The little gold sparkles hide everything but still give you a sense of mystery and appropriate sexiness.

I like it .... without the poof ! So close !

Florence Welch in Givenchy

It's a Dinosaur Dress.

What else am I suppose to say ?

Fail.

Kat Dennings in Vivienne Westwood

I'm so sorry Viv but this looks like wrapping paper .

It does not fit.

The colour and fabric look awful.

The cut is confusing.

Hate the shoes.

Why the long black hair and dark red lip with a blue dress and nude shoes ...?

Moving on ....

Adele in Valentino Couture

Couture or Carpet?

I'm so sorry Adele but this is not working for you and it's not working for Valentino.

It does look like a carpet and I don't think people should wear carpets unless it's a fancy dress party and you want to come as a carpet.

I do appreciate the matching carpet shoes though :D

Well that's it ! I'm looking forward to reviewing the BAFTAs - I hope to find some amazing gowns ... ! Until then :

Much love and shoes,

à bientôt,

Mlle Ginger
