SAG Awards: The Ginger Review

A few posts back I reviewed the Golden Globe Dresses. That post was a success (thanks guys) so I thought I'd go ahead and review the SAG Awards. Fingers crossed you like this one too!

I have chosen 9 Dresses to be opinionated about and I will put them into 4 categories :

1. Well Done!
2.Confusing...
3.Fail
4.My number 1 Red Carpet Look

Let's do this!

1. Well Done

Nina Dobrev

Dress by Elie Saab.

This dress is perfect for her body type. She looks gorgeous but not too skinny - in some dresses she may have looked a little thin I think.

The top of the dress is "t-shirt" like but it works because the dress is full length so it doesn't make it too casual.
The little slit is great and I adore the belt; It gives her a waist line and cuts the dress in the perfect place to give her body some shape.

Love the colour:  fresh and young! Like the hair, earrings and purse.

Well done!

Kerry Washington

Dress by Rodarte

I love the bustier on the skirt. It does remind me of the Chanel number Anne Hathaway had at the Globes but it's different enough to work for her. It's very glamourous even though it's a two piece.

The detail around the edges adds a little extra spice to the outfit and the slit at the top of the bustier relaxes the square cut.

The white on her skin looks gorgeous.

Well Done!

Amanda Seyfried

Dress by Zac Posen

Navy Blue : YES ! This is the way forward ... forget black !! So sophisticated I can't take it!

The bottom of the dress is gorgeous, definitely gives her floor ownership of the red carpet. The top of the dress in that heart shape reminds of the waves of the bottom and makes the dress "cute" ...and she's young so that's good!

The necklace and hair keep the overall look relaxed.

Well Done !

Tina Fey

Dress by Oscar De La Renta

Oscar Oscar Oscar this dress is fabulous ! In my Golden Globes review I had a soft spot for the Zac Posen number Glenn Close was wearing ... in this review it's the De La Renta I have a crush on.

The top of the dress is perfect, the length is perfect, the frill detail gives the dress some weight and the BELT ?? That is the genius behind this look !!!

I can't really even explain why I love this but I do.

I want to wear a gown with a belt now ....

Well Done!

2. Confusing...

Sofia Vergara

Dress by Donna Karan

Is it a fancy night gown? is it a wedding dress? was the second sleeve too long so she put it by her neck instead?

What is happening with the bottom? Is one side longer?  where is the slit?

The shoes look cheap. Sorry. What's with the platform and the 1 red toe nail I can see ??

Confusing ....

Nicole Kidman

Dress by Vivienne Westwood

Why can I see her big pants??

The "stuff" coming off of the dress looks like see weed ... maybe she is suppose to look like a high fashion queen of the sea ?

I like the length and shape but that's it.

Nicole Kidman can look great in so many things, why did she pick this???

Confusing ....

3. Fail

Rose Byrne

Dress by Valentino

You know in the 70's they had bad pastel flower print wall paper? Here it is, straight from her mothers old living room transformed into a dress. There was some spare paper left over from the basic dress so she created a floaty sleeve for broader shoulders (not hot) and then added some wings down the side of the dress to widen everything : NOT WORKING.

Once all the wall paper was stuck together she ran to a shop to get a plastic white belt to make sure the paper didn't fall apart.

FAIL

Julianna Moore

Dress by Chanel

The neckline makes everything look like its falling down ...

The top of the dress is baggy  and looks like an old pyjama vest when the bottom looks like a piece of material for a cushion.
The top does not work with the bottom! This needed a different top half if nothing else !!

It's not working for me. It's not working for her. It's not working for Chanel !!!

Oh and btw, with a neckline like that , tie your hair up! Don't let it hang with the other hanging things !

Fail

4. My number 1 Red Carpet Look

Marion Cotillard

Dress by Christian Dior

OUI ! OUI! OUI!

LOVE this dress.
LOVE the white top to contrast with the deep blue "poof" part of the dress.
LOVE the bow belt: original to have a bow at the front.
LOVE the pockets for a bit of "edge" .
LOVE the folded material at the front and
LOVE the length difference around the bottom.
LOVE the reveal of the great shoes.
LOVE the necklace.
LOVE the hair.

LOVE the french actress wearing a french designer.

This is my number 1 Red Carpet Look FOR SURE !!!

And so this review comes to an end with DIOR winning me over again !! A real coincidence but so far 2 really gorgeous gowns worn very well .

Looking forward to the next Red Carpet event I can critique !

Much love and shoes,

à bientôt,

Behold the Belt

I like shopping. I like going shopping. Walking around and looking at stuff . Touching fabrics. Trying stuff on. Putting ugly things back. You get it.

I'm not an online shopper BUT if i'm looking for something specific and I can't find it in the stores I will have to track it down online.  In this particular scenario though, something found me when I wasn't even looking for it.... The Cinderella Belt.

It was a gloomy Sunday evening and I was abusing google images in search of photographic support for my post "Once upon a time there was a shoe ..." (you should read it, it's my fav') when I came across an image of a Vintage Black Belt with a Gold Buckle and little Gold Cinderella Slippers all the way around. I died .

It was difficult to go ahead and purchase it because of the Birthday guilt! I had just received so many presents, including a couple I got for myself (as you do), how could I justify another buy??? So I sought advice from the perfect friend and figured SHE was RIGHT and I should OWN it or I WOULD regret it FOREVER . Besides - as mentioned before - the BELT FOUND ME. I had no choice.

I have worn it twice already and I am obsessed with it. It suits me, it suits my style, it reflects my shoe obsession and I can wear it over and over (as long as my waist stays this size) . It's definitely a "piece" that I had to have.

So without further ado here is THE BELT in the Snow :

                                   *Side View*

*Front View*

Sometimes it may not be the right time for your wallet or in this case for your morals but if it's LOVE at FIRST SIGHT : GET IT ! Or you'll regret it !

Much love and shoes,

à bientôt,

Fashion Films

Once in a while I get the urge to watch a Fashion Film. Now I don't mean a film about fashion I mean a movie that has a great Wardrobe.

I love watching a movie just for the clothes, bags, shoes .... STYLING !  Fashion can be very inspiring to me. I like to look at how items are put together and I love to observe how a wardrobe paints a character in a movie or even in every day life !

Don't get me wrong some fashion statements are just wrong; I don't like everything but I know what I like and I can find it in these 3 Fashion Films:

-The Devil Wears Prada
- Sex and the City
-101/2 Dalmatians

So i'm going to pull out some images and hopefully take you on  a little Fashion Film journey .

The Devil Wears Prada

Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly

I'm obsessed! My favourite part of the movie is when ... well I have 2 :
- when they do all the cut away shots of Miranda walking into the office and throwing her coats and bags onto the desk .
- when Miranda explains to Andy what her "blue sweater" represents... classic.

Anyway, the wardrobe in this movie is amazing.
Everything is so well styled.
Miranda Priestly is a very classy bitch! Everything she wears is timeless.

In this picture I love the little orange scarf well wrapped around her neck adding a touch of colour to her outfit. I'm also obsessed with the sunglasses she wears throughout the film that are icy cold like her hair totally reflecting the character.
Anne Hathaway as Andy

The styling for Andy is a little younger and edgier but still very classy.

I love the cut of the sweater with the shirt buttoned to the top underneath.

The necklace is amazing. Like a charm bracelet gone huge with the inevitable Chanel logo dangling. It makes a statement. Big jewellery always does!
The hat is fun and young, especially with the hair tucked inside it ... and it's on a tilt so obviously that's a thumbs up from me.

The genius in the costume department for this film? Patricia Field.

Sex and the City - The Movies

Kim Catrall as Samantha Jones

It's very hard to pick a stand out outfit from Sex and the City because the whole film is basically a fashion show. Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha have very different styles that you get to know when you watch the series and in the movie those individual styles are pushed to the extreme and it's great !

I love the Samantha Jones colourfull wardrobe. She often wears pencil skirts with blazers or off the shoulder tops with a belt. I love a Belt ! She always has Amazing earrings (and again i'm a big earring fan) and is hardly ever seen without a huge Bag.

I feel like I would wear a lot of what she wears.

In this picture I LOVE the TOP and BELT. I don't really know how to explain it but I would definitely wear this - someone hook me up ! She is Owning that Pavement.

Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw

Look at these outfits! So well put together ...

Remember the "gladiator shoes" - far right ?

Don't tell me you didn't go around looking for a pair after this movie! They are amazing and dare I say I got myself a great pair from Zara . Oh Happy Day.

So who is responsible for this wardrobe? Patricia Field!  Again!!

101/2 Dalmatians

Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil

Not sure where to start with this one. The Cruella wardrobe is insane. Everything she wears is So over the top, So co-ordinated, So impossible !!!

Let's take the Zebra outfit middle row, left.
The hat is basically her hair but transformed into a russian style hat. The dress is all Zebra print with a high neck and super square shoulders. It looks so russian and mean ! Huge belt around her waist to sculpt the outfit and then the genius touch of red with the gloves, bag and lip. Oh and the cigarette holder. DUH !

Then the all red outfit ... well do I need to go there? Oh and the bottom far right - CRAZY ! Top left???? Geometry fashion !!!

That's a hat - I want one! It hides her face to make her look mysterious and scary . The pointy edge goes with her pointy witch chin !
Does she have nails on top of the gloves? Yeh she does.

This is a High Fashion Witch !! The names behind this incredible interpretation of a great Disney Character are Rosemery Burrows and Anthony Powell.

Et voila! I hope you enjoyed my Fashion Film Post and you feel a sudden urge to watch one of these ... or all of them !

Much love and shoes,

à bientôt,

Golden Globes - The Ginger Review

So the 2013 Golden Globe Awards have happened and I have had a look at all the dresses. Obviously I have an opinion so I figured I may as well do my own Fashion Review!

I will be placing a selection of women into 4 categories based on their dresses and overall look. Here are the categories :

1. Well Done !
2. Confusing ...
3. Fail
4. My number 1 Red Carpet Look

So here it goes !! Total amount of dresses I have selected to place: 10

1st up we have the " Well Done " Category

This year I like quite a few dresses! Shock !

I noticed, as I was browsing, that many dresses look a little bridal ... now I don't like most of those because I don't think you should go to the Golden Globes looking like a desperate wannabe bride but I think 2 ladies got it right.

Their dresses were gorgeous and not too bridal. In fact you may not see the bridal theme in these dresses at all now that I've taken them out of context ...

....So congratulations to Lea Michele and Jennifer Lopez who got it right, Well done!

Lea Michele

Elie Saab dress.

Love it ! Like the shape, nice and young with the halter neck.

DON'T like the shoe .... too complicated.

Hair is ok, I would have gone for an up- do myself .

But the dress is really gorgeous don't you think??

WELL DONE!

Jennifer Lopez

Zuhair Murad dress.

Love it ! So elegant, works perfect on her body.

Not sure about the one sided hair though ... but JLO I forgive you because you look amazing as always.

WELL DONE!

Stepping away from the bridal theme I have 3 more looks that I believe deserve to be in the "Well Done" Category.

Helena Bonham Carter

Versace dress.

Love it ! She has a unique style that suits her and she runs with it ... WERK ! The sleeves and neckline are Fabulous.

Love the hair and red lip to match the red lip handbag that I would personally never wear but werks for her.

Great simple shoe.

WELL DONE !

Glenn Close

Zac Posen Dress

She is stealing the show !
So classy and so elegant in navy.
Gorgeous dress with bolero to match.

Great hair and earrings ! Nothing to fault .

WELL DONE!

Anne Hathaway

Chanel Dress

Timeless Classic as always- Chanel .

Great with the short hair. I think she looks like a perfume bottle but it works !

WELL DONE !

Moving on and stepping into the "Confusing ... " Category

Lucy Liu

Carolina Herrera Dress

This looks like Sissi gone wrong (Empress of Austria 1837)
They made a Movie about her life that I use to watch when I was little and she whore a gorgeous blue flower gown to the ball !

Looks like bad wall paper as a dress ?

I like ... the pockets... the shape ... the hair BUT what is up with this huge floral print and colour scheme ??

I'm pretty sure she was aiming for gold but ultimately she WILL regret this because it's ...

CONFUSING ...

Halle Berry

Atelier Versace Dress

You look hot, i'll give you that but what's up with the map on the dress?

The colour scheme mixed with the one shoulder/ leg exposure  makes it look like a summer beach dress. Too much skin ...

Like the shoe.

Again she looks hot but it's not because of the dress it's because she is Halle Berry and all in all this dress on a red carpet is...

CONFUSING ...

Entering the 3rd Category : Fail

Sienna Miller

Erdem dress

Toilet paper papier maché dress.

Looks like some bits are falling off of it too ... not impressed.

FAIL

Julia Louis- Dreyfus

Vera Wang dress

Too big. Looks like it's going to fall off.

Is it a Halloween Princess dress? Very depressing colour and motif.

Again too big

Hair down and behind your ears ?????? Come on !!

FAIL

FINALLY ON TO THE LAST CATEGORY :
MY NUMBER 1 RED CARPET LOOK

This dress is AMAZING. As far as I'm concerned this is how you walk down the red carpet of the Golden Globes and OWN IT !!

Jennifer Lawrence

Dior Haute Couture Ball Gown

OMG ! It's sooooo gorgeous.

The colour is strong and powerful. The belt is small and metallic and gives the dress just a touch of "young edge" .

Love the top of the dress and the way it only goes out at the hip rather then at the waist.

Great  Hair! Jewellery small and discreet.

Looks like she is wearing perfectly matched shoes ....

Check it out from another angle:

*WOW*

DEFINITELY MY NUMBER 1

Dior Haute Couture

The End !

Much love and shoes,

à bientôt,

Mlle Ginger
